About the photographer...
Susan Roberts first became interested in photography as
a hobby nearly 30 years ago, but soon found her photos illustrating magazine articles and books about boating.
She moved to South Carolina in 1996 after spending
six years on a 36-foot sailboat cruising up and down the U.S. East Coast from Maine to Florida, the
Bahama Islands and down into the Caribbean, including South and Central America.
After making landfall on Edisto Island, she
began focusing her camera's lens on the natural and manmade
beauty of the Carolina coastal area. While the low country remains the primary focus of her work, she has recently begun broadening her
geographic scope.
In the year 2000, Susan began offering her work to the public, first as photo note
cards and subsequently as enlargements suitable for framing. Since that time, her work has come to grace the walls
of homes and/or offices in more than 35 states, three provinces of Canada and seven countries in Europe.
What sets Susan's work apart is her eye for the
interplay of color and light, the simplicity of her images, and the aura of tranquility -- or, in some instances, the
sense of playfulness -- that emanates from her photos.
After years of working with 35mm. film and traditional photographic
printing systems, Susan has finally been forced by circumstances to begin using a digital camera. One thing she
has vowed will remain the same, however, is the integrity of her photographs. Although the images must be processed
through a computer, they are minimally processed. In that way, you can look at her photos knowing that you are
seeing in her photographs what she saw through her lens.
Enjoy.
